TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

 850

thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test is a common blood test used to evaluate how well the thyroid gland is working.

Diagnosis of hypothyroidism is based on your symptoms and the results of blood tests that measure the level of TSH and sometimes the level of the thyroid hormone thyroxine. A low level of thyroxine and high level of TSH indicate an underactive thyroid.

Most of the time, thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism) is associated with an elevated TSH level, while thyroid hormone excess (hyperthyroidism) is associated with a low TSH level.
These include:
  • Thyroiditis.
  • Graves’ disease.
  • Hashimoto’s disease.
  • Goiter.
  • Thyroid nodule.
  • Thyroid cancer.
