Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT) / ALT

 400

SGPT test is a blood test performed to measure the enzyme created in the liver called Alanine Transaminase (ALT). The enzyme was formerly known as Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT). ALT is measured to check for any liver damage or disease prevalence. Finding a low level of ALT in the blood is normal.

An ALT test measures the level of alanine aminotransferase, also called ALT or SGPT. ALT is one of the enzymes that help the liver convert food into energy. High levels of these enzymes can be a sign that the liver is injured or irritated, and the enzymes are leaking out of the liver cells.

A high level of SGPT released into the blood may be a sign of liver damage, cancer, or other diseases. Also called alanine transferase and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase.
